Earth Day on the Water: How We Protect What We Love

Earth Day isn’t just a date on the calendar for us — it’s a reflection of how we operate every day on the water.

At Cruise San Diego, the ocean isn’t just our backdrop. It’s our responsibility. Every cruise, every charter, and every partnership is an opportunity to do things a little better — for our guests, for our city, and for the environment we’re lucky enough to call home.

Here’s how we’re working to protect what we love.

Reducing Our Impact, One Cruise at a Time

We believe small choices add up — especially when you’re on the water every day.

  • Fuel Offsets That Make a Difference
  • Together with our sister company, San Diego Whale Watch, we offset over 32,000 gallons of fuel last year through Offset Alliance. It’s one way we take accountability for our footprint while continuing to deliver unforgettable experiences.
  • Smarter Materials On Board
  • You won’t find single-use plastics here. Instead, we use:
    • Compostable cups
    • Paper straws
    • Aluminum water bottles (no plastic)
    • Onboard recycling systems
  • It’s a simple shift that helps keep unnecessary waste out of our oceans.
  • Less Paper, More Purpose
  • From reusable boarding passes to digital waivers, we’ve reduced paper waste across our operations without sacrificing ease for our guests.

Partnering with Purpose

Sustainability isn’t something we do alone — it’s built into the partnerships we choose.

  • Mahalo Bar (1% for the Planet)
  • Our onboard Mahalo Bar is a proud 1% for the Planet partner, meaning 1% of revenue is donated to organizations that support environmental causes. So every drink served does a little more good behind the scenes.
  • A Shared Commitment with San Diego Whale Watch
  • As sister companies, we work closely with San Diego Whale Watch to align our sustainability efforts and amplify our impact — from fuel offsets to ocean education.

Giving Back to Our Coastline

Protecting the ocean also means showing up for it — literally.

Through partnerships with San Diego Whale Watch and the Future Foundation, we host beach cleanups throughout the year, helping remove trash before it ever reaches the water.

These events bring together locals, guests, and team members who care about keeping San Diego’s coastline as beautiful as it should be.

Why It Matters

San Diego’s coastline is what makes this city special. It’s where we celebrate, explore, unwind, and connect.

Taking care of it isn’t a marketing message — it’s part of who we are.

When you step on board, you’re not just booking a cruise. You’re supporting a local company that’s actively working to protect the ocean that makes these experiences possible.

Celebrate Earth Day with Intention

This Earth Day, we invite you to experience San Diego from the water — and feel good about how you’re doing it.

Because the best way to enjoy the ocean… is to help protect it.

Ready to Experience It for Yourself?

Whether you’re planning a sunset cruise, a private charter, or simply looking for a new way to enjoy San Diego, there’s something special about being on the water — especially when it’s done with intention.

If you’ve been thinking about getting out on the bay, consider this your sign. Come experience it for yourself — and feel good about how you’re doing it.
